This week, The Pig is mostly…

…partying hard at the vibrant Bell Inn on Walcot Street, now officially owned by a community of super-active local citizens who wouldn’t let this long-running institution disappear. On the food front, the magnificent menus come courtesy of local food hero Made By Ben, who runs the kitchen Wed-Fri evenings and Sat-Sun daytimes – ding dong indeed.

…keeping fingers crossed that Gordon Jones – the unique hob God behind his eponymous Bear Flat ‘Menu’ venture – wins himself the coveted Good Food Guide ‘Restaurant of the Year’ award. The fact that he made the shortlist is a massive (and well-deserved) achievement in itself – but can Gordon go all the way? The Pig thinks so!

…delighted to see tastefully cutesy sweet stuff specialists My Sweet Cupcakery opening the doors to their new Shaftsbury Road venture, bringing yet more local loveliness to the increasingly foodie Moorland Road hub.

…going wild for wild garlic, proliferating in abundance in hedgerows around Bath right now. Make the most of it; it’ll be gone again by the end of the month.

…lovin’ the lively wine tasting sessions at Raisin Wines on Walcot Street. Forthcoming themes include Marilyn Merlot, 50 Shades of Grape and The Italian Job; what’s not to love?
