The Vaults: the big reveal begins

So, the rumours have been confirmed: independent brewer Bath Ales has signed a lease for a new venue in Bath that will be its biggest outlet yet, set to become a flagship for the dynamic business conglomerate whose other local outlets include the Salamander and the Hop Pole. But the biggest, brightest addition to the Bath Ales family to date won’t be ‘just’ a pub: Graze Bar, Brewery and Chophouse – due to open as part of the Bath Spa railway station Vaults complex just before Christmas – will supplement existing Graze locations in Bristol and Cirencester, leading Bath Ales’ retail director Robin Couling to comment, “this is a really exciting development for us. The existing Graze locations in Bristol and Cirencester have been fantastically well received and we’re confident that Graze will be a welcome addition to the city of Bath.”

Graze will form part of a new food quarter in the final phase of a £360m Heritage City redevelopment created in and around the arches of the 19th century railway station. The bar and restaurant (which combined can accommodate up to around 140 diners) will take up the entire first floor and include two large outside alfresco dining areas, a large open plan kitchen, a meat hanging room and a small microbrewery producing specialist craft beers.

And despite disgruntled murmurs from redevelopment naysayers predicting yet another franchise invasion, there’s more good news to come: fingers and toes are crossed that Jika Jika will also be taking over a unit at the Vaults, keeping things local, lively and lovely indeed.
