The Lunch Bunch: has The Pig discovered the Best Sandwich in Bath yet?

So, just how do Bathonians keep their lunchtimes lively? A couple of weeks ago, we were doing it like this…but already, there’s another freshly-cut batch demanding your midday attentions:

The very friendly folk at the Best of British Deli believe that “a sandwich should be a work of art” – and their free range Devonshire ham and Vintage Cheddar combo (complete with the freshest, fruitiest chutney that The Pig has encountered in a very long time) attests to such a philosophy.

Go gourmet a go-go courtesy of Made By Ben and take away a Smoking Goat: locally smoked Chèvre with rocket pesto, toasted pine nuts, Ben’s smoked rapeseed oil and a balsamic reduction.

A sunny day, a pavement table on one of the prettiest traffic-free thoroughfares in Bath and a fully-laden hummus and salad wrap to keep lunchtime lively: it all comes courtesy of La Croissanterie on Northumberland Place (except, perhaps, that temperamental sun…)

Heading for Parade Gardens? Drop by Gourmet Scoffs and take an American Club Sandwich (chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato thoroughly salacious mayonnaise) with you – you won’t regret it.

If there’s a filling combination that Intermezzo Express (Barton Street) can’t rustle up for you from the massive array on display, it isn’t worth having. Feeling indecisive?  Mozzarella, tomatoes and fresh basil on a very, very fresh baguette can’t fail to satisfy.

So, what d’you reckon? The debate continues! Keep those sarnie suggestions coming…

  1. I LOVE La Croissanterie – very friendly service too. Can’t believe you left Cafe Retro out though! Trying Made By Ben tomorrow, thanks for the tip 🙂
