Ten things that are making The Pig Guide really happy this January…

…feel free to mix’n’match them up as the list is in no particular order. Just make sure you try them all, and prepare for an instant happiness hit!

  • Stracchino, canoli, creamy, dreamy Burrata and all kinds of everything else from the utterly gorgeous Avellino’s Italian Cafe and Deli

  • The Fisherman’s Lunch at the Scallop Shell (Monmouth Place): fish and chips, mushy peas, tartare sauce, bread and butter and a massive mug of Yorkshire Tea for a tenner

  • The rise in popularity of the proper, cosy, country pubs that make leaving the house in winter worthwhile: cheers to the Cross Guns (Avoncliff), the Cross Keys (Rode) and the Inn at Freshford.

  • The Pig Guide’s super-sparkly, gorgeously glamorous Champagne Supper Club at the Gainsborough Bath Spa on Thursday 25 January

  • Gnocchi, tortelli, panini, organic mozzarella, Provolone and much, much more from Pasta Station

  • Noya’s Kitchen, for showing what can be done in Bath if the person who is doing it honestly, really does love cooking, and loves food, and loves the people who love cooking and food

  • Big bowls of vibrant, fresh vegetables or fruit for just £1 – a quid! – from Jimmy Deane’s lively fruit and veg stall, New Orchard Street (down the side road next to Marks and Spencer)

  • The prospect of sharing perfect pizzas in magical surroundings on Friday or Saturday evenings at Castle Farm Cafe, Midford Road

  • A deliciously indulgent Bombon (espresso and condensed milk) at/from the Colombian Coffee Company, Abbeygate Street

  • Pre-, post- or anytime cocktails on the Mint Room’s utterly gorgeous rooftop cocktail terrace
