Since opening its doors in the autumn of 2015, the latest branch of this independently owned neighbourhood bar and restaurant which has long since made a big impact on Bristol has swiftly established itself as a popular Heritage City merrymaking hotspot that negates the need for immersing ourselves in the inevitable city centre fuss in what feels like no time at all – and it’s easy to see why.

The breezy, spacious interior offers a welcoming contemporary dining area (including a private dining room) and a more casual bar area to lounge around in, while the sun terrace outback is a summertime hotspot and a dining patio adjacent to the bar is set to prove popular this spring. Menus, meanwhile, revolve around the owners “21st century brasserie” ethos, moving with the clock from breakfast through to hearty, imaginative brunches, light (or not so light!) lunches and splendid, seasonal suppers largely wrought from locally-sourced ingredients.

If you’ve yet to try it for yourself, the “Bring a Friend for Free” bargain every Tuesday evening is the perfect way to introduce yourself to the Zazu’s experience: sit down with your mate (or, of course, mates), make your selection from a distinctly upmarket array of dishes (there be no ‘special menu’ restrictions lurking here) and the cost of one main course will be deducted from your bill at home time – what’s not to love? Meanwhile, cocktails are positively cocky, the Sunday roasts positively rollickin’ and Thursday night is Steak Night: a selection of prime cuts accompanied by classic sauces and sides plus a glass of wine from just £12.50 – that’s all the Bear necessities covered, then.

Can’t find it? Look out for the iconic Bear Flat landmark that is Snowy the polar bear, who resides over proceedings from his prime location over the front door.
