Local, seasonal, sustainable produce cooked before your very eyes in an open kitchen that could easily be a backdrop for a TV series featuring the hottest chef du jour served up in a characterful Queen Street cornerstone building – yup, you’ve gone Wild. In easygoing, classic café-style surroundings, an easygoing, all-day menu features easygoing, classic dishes: the brunch selection includes an excellent full English breakfast (around £6), sumptuous sandwiches and salads (from around £3) keep lunchtimes lively and sturdier options might include rabbit pie, venison burgers and fresh mussels when in season (£6-£8ish). While staff are friendly and eager to please, service can be a bit ad-hoc, but that’s a small price to pay for properly fresh, homemade dishes, cooked and assembled to order; while many cafés make such claims, few adhere to them as strictly as the Wild guys. A trip to the basement loo, meanwhile, is a wild experience in itself: if you’re claustrophobic, over 5 feet tall or unsteady on staircases, the Pig advises you not to go there. For an invigorating lunchtime safari at street level, however, Wild Café is highly recommended.

  1. On a manic Saturday we made our way to this cafe. So lucky to get a seat but it was worth it. Service very efficient and friendly and not a long wait for our various forms of breakfast which was delicious. Finished it off with a tumbler of mulled wine! Thanks.
