a tantalising taste of traditional and contemporary Turkey at the heart of Bath
Beautifully-laid tables, plush velvet-covered furniture, vibrant artwork, fresh flowers, friendly staff, a glittering bar… step into Cappadocia, and revel in the blast of Bath food scene fresh air that hits you from the off. Subtly glamorous, casually chic, laid-back luxurious, it’s all the things that you’d expect a contemporary restaurant and bar (oh, that bar! More on that later) to be… but here’s the twist: you can dress up or dress down, party on with friends or smooch in a romantic corner (and there are plenty of those to cosy up in) with your beloved, arrive starving or merely in the mood for a meze munch fest – but whatever route you take to your bespoke taste of Turkey, your staycation experience definitely isn’t going to be spoilt by a break-the-bank bill at home time.
To start our cruise around the Cappadocia menu, a fine array of hummus, falafel, taramasalata, sucuk, muska borek and calamari on a dynamic mixed meze platter all came together in perfect taste’n’texture harmony, accompanied by that all-important oven fresh pitta bread. From the main menu, my Chicken Sautée was a lush, moist, fragrant melange of lush, moist chicken and lively Mediterranean herbs, while the Lamb Incik – a massive hunk of lamb shank that succumbed to the tiniest intervention from the fork and almost melted into the baby potatoes, mixed peppers and soft vegetables that it was cooked with – was good enough to make Mr Pig quit wondering if he’d made a mistake in eschewing the kebabs, koftas and steaks that flirted so strongly with him as he made his choice while reinforcing his plans to return to Coppadocia soon to do the full-on kebab Kasik Oyuno. But hey, fish options make a splash too (personally, I’m returning for the Seafood Casserole), a veggie meze would be positively vivacious and GF options are writ large throughout. Kesinlikle muhteşem! And now, we’re going upstairs to the bar…
Spread across a collection of characterful, intimate, beautifully decorated (think, opulant; ornate; plush) upper floor rooms and offering splendid views across the weir, Bar Coppa goes large on freshly made, upmarket cocktails served from 5pm-late every night of the week (really late Thursday-Saturday; like, 3am late). Happy Hour strikes from 6-8pm every day, and super service comes as standard, as it does downstairs in the restaurant.
