Ben Franks Wine
Ben Franks has been a professional writer since the tender age of 15 years old. He started to specialise in drinks journalism after striking a deal with the Waitrose Bath branch when at university, reviewing a bottle of wine a week until he realised that Wine World was the career he wanted to pursue. In February of this year Ben passed the WSET Level 2 with distinction and became a certified wine specialist, and is currently studying for my WSET Level 3 (the advanced industry-standard) with renowned wine educator Lys Hall in Bristol.
Today you can discover over 100 wine recommendations, vineyard visit details, tasting notes, reviews and more on Ben’s website, while his reputation for intimate, accessible wine tasting events is gathering pace. Specifically geared to groups of around 6-15 people, Ben talks his guests through six wines plus one blind tasting at the end of the evening in a relaxed environment. These experiences can be fully customised for private sessions (from £18pp) or you can join Ben at one of his regular public tasting sessions at some of Bath’s loveliest venues, including those owned by fellow Pig Guide members the Marlborough Tavern and Gascoyne Place. Meanwhile, Ben also offers event consultation for wine lovers planning a wedding day, birthday or other special occasion; corporate Champagne welcome events; source and supply of wines to a specific brief; seasonal wine list updates and reviews; wine trade and retail consultations and many more services – if we’ve whetted your appetite to make a booking, clickety-click double-quick. And if you, like us, never want to miss out on a good wine, follow Ben on Twitter @Writer_Franks. Now what was that old adage about not finding good wine in young barrel? Ben Franks blows all such clichés out of the water.
