impeccably-appointed oasis of refinement

Tucked away in Bath’s version of the Hollywood Hills, The Bath Priory Hotel (the only hotel in the city to be part of the auspicious Relais & Châteaux collection) is the epitome of the British version of full-on glamour. No commotion more intrusive than the discreet crunch of wheels on the driveway (beautifully torchlit post-sunset) is allowed to disturb the halcyon tranquility that surrounds this impeccably-appointed oasis of refinement, home to a spa, acres of landscaped gardens overseen by award-winning gardener Jane Moore, a collection of utterly luxurious bedrooms… and a triple AA-rosette holding kitchen overseen by Executive Chef Michael Nizzero, who specialises in the memorable menus that epitomise the contemporary fine dining experience in elegantly traditional surroundings.

If you’re in search of perfection from service and surroundings to impeccably presented, faultless food, you’ve most definitely arrived at your destination at The Bath Priory – we simply cannot recommend Michael’s innovative though thoroughly accessible ways with local, seasonal ingredients (much of which is sourced from the hotel’s own garden) and imaginative execution of every dish he creates highly enough.

Michael’s menus (which he describes as modern classical French in theme) change on a daily basis according to seasonality and local market availability. If you’re craving a stunning, memorable gourmet extravaganza, you most definitely won’t be disappointed by the 7-course Tasting Menu (£98pp; optional wine flight available,) while the a la carte dinner menu couldn’t possibly fail to disappoint those in search of a more traditional approach to satiation. Meanwhile, lunch (2/3-courses for £30/£35) Monday-Saturday) is an astounding bargain that makes the Priory experience accessible to all, and the Pantry – adjacent to an inviting bar and offering direct access to those beautiful gardens via the alfresco patio – offers all-day dining options at distinctly down-to-earth prices. Afternoon Tea here is a Great British Treat too – heck, why don’t we all just move in? Oh, if only!

Having said all that (and seriously, we could say so, so much more – we really are on very special territory here,) we urge you to forge a strong relationship with The Bath Priory’s Events Diary (and, of course, with our own News section, newsletter and Twitter feed) for news of very special, one-off lunches, dinners and exclusive wine-matched menus hosted by special guests and representatives from the world’s best wine producers and vineyards. We recently attended, for example, an English Wine Dinner hosted by the Bolney Wine Estate which can only be described as an outstandingly wonderful, wholly memorable experience from canapes to coffee.

Overall, this refined, genteel prandial playground offers elegantly lively proof that a long-established, world class fine dining establishment can also feed contemporary great expectations in au courant fine style.
