Pack it In

All those who follow The Pig on Twitter (and if you’re not in the 1,330+ gang, then why not? @thepigguide) are well aware of the goings on in the kitchen and beyond at the Packhorse Inn, the delightfully quirky country pub nestled in the pastoral paradise that is Southstoke. Already renowned for their perfect Sunday lunches (last week’s slow-cooked shoulder of lamb was a veritable triumph), Fridays at the Packhorse are becoming legendary too – there’s free tapas on the bar from 5-6.30pm, designed to put us all in the mood for the forthcoming weekend; if complementary nibbles including venison chorizo, roasted almonds and slow-cooked chorizo in red wine don’t induce that Friday feeling, we don’t know what does. Meanwhile, if you want to take a taste of the Packhorse away with you, do it on Thursdays when you can run off with beer-battered haddock and the best chips for miles around for just £9…and enjoy a free pint/glass of wine while you wait for your order to materialise.
