In The Kitchen: a lovely addition to the Bath cookery school/private chef scene

Globetrotting Bath-born superchef Peter Testo’s gorgeous little In the Kitchen cookery school (based below the Tasting Room, 6 Green Street) is officially open for business. I started my cookery classes because I wanted to share everything I learnt whilst travelling,” says Peter – and, given his extensive excursion experiences, he has a lot to share.

Peter began his cheffing career over a decade ago, beginning his training at acclaimed Bath gastropub the King William (and the pub’s sister operations the Garrick’s Head/Oakhill Inn) in a sous chef position. He then went on to work across Europe, undertook a mighty trek to New Zealand and skipped back to the UK to enjoy a stint at The Hut on the Isle of White before heading back to Bath to take up the role of head chef at the Tasting Room. Phew!

The Pig Guide has plenty of exciting collaboration plans with Peter/In The Kitchen to reveal over the coming months. But right here, right now, classes currently trending on the ITK ‘book today’ list include Seasonal Vegetarian on Saturday 1 April, 30-minute Meals on Sunday 2 April, Seasonal 3-course on Saturday 8 April, Nose-to-Tail on Saturday 15 April, Pastry and Pies on Sunday 16 April and Tasty Tapas on Saturday 22 April. Classes (for a maximum of 8 people) cost between £65-85pp, to include all equipment, tea and coffee, lunch (which the participants prepare together) with wine, and recipes (and leftovers, if there are any!) to take away. Individual and group bookings are accepted, and all classes can be adapted to dietary requirements. Peter also works as a private chef for all manner of special occasions, too – yup, this is a very captivating kitchen indeed.
