Hot news from the Abbey Hotel

If you’ve yet to get up-close-and-personal with recently appointed Allium Restaurant/Abbey Hotel head chef Rupert Taylor (read all about him here), might we suggest that you fix that glitch pronto at one (or several!) lively, informal Supper Clubs hosted by Rupert and offering guests the opportunity to get a taste of what he’s all about.

The Supper Clubs are hosted in the Abbey’s atmospheric Igloo in an at home, ‘dinner party’ style, with guests usually seated together at one long feasting table to encourage a sociable, chilled-out vibe. Forthcoming Supper Party themes include Indulgence (Tuesday 16 May), Fish Night (Tuesday 20 June), Street Food (Tuesday 25 July), Veggie Special (Tuesday 26 September), a Very Special Collaboration (watch this space, Piggies!) on Thursday 26 October and a Food Heroes event inspired by Rupert’s favourite chefs on Tuesday 21 November. Tickets for all the Supper Clubs cost just £35pp to include a glass of Prosecco on arrival, a 3-course feast and half a bottle of wine especially selected to match the menu, but be warned – space is strictly limited to a maximum of 25 guests, so booking is essential (see small print, below).

While we’re on Abbey territory, what better way to usher in the start of the summer season (which means that the Abbey’s terrific terrace is open for business again, hoorah!) than sipping a selection of glorious English wines from the award-winning Lyme Bay Winery whilst grazing on a moveable feast of seafood dishes to match, including tantalising delights such as scallop, lime and coriander ceviche, dressed Cornish crab, chilli and garlic butterfly sardines, lobster and mango salad with shellfish mayonnaise and fresh oysters with rhubarb and shallot vinegar. Each plate-combination brings two dishes to your personal party; you can nibble on one plate for £20, two for £25 or go for all three served on a glamorous, tiered hanging stand for £35. The inaugural Lyme Bay/seafood terrace event takes place on Friday 26 May from 5-9pm, and will continue every Friday throughout the summer – what a wonderful way to wave goodbye to the working week and offer a warm welcome to the weekend!
