Great Bath Feast 2017: 3 Café Kitchen on the hunt for Bath’s Best Scone Maker

As part of this year’s Great Bath Feast, the vibrant 3 Café Kitchen is hosting The Great Bath Scone Off on Friday 6 October… and The Pig Guide is proud to be amongst the panel of expert tasters who will be judging your efforts!

3 Café Kitchen has brought a whole new dimension to the meaning of café society in Bath. Based at Three Ways School in Odd Down, it opened to the public in July of this year and offers a bright, airy space in which to enjoy delicious locally sourced and homemade breakfasts, lunches, coffees and (of course!) scones. But there’s much more going on behind the scenes than a busy, thriving kitchen.

This fantastic initiative exists to give young people with special needs work experience and training in a real life café environment, the like of which they’re unlikely to experience or secure elsewhere. Over the next year, 3 Café Kitchen is aiming to facilitate 60 young people to complete work placements and gain qualifications as the team behind the initiative develop links with local employers and training providers in order to ensure that the young people have viable options to consider when they leave school.

We’re really looking forward to this opportunity to showcase our new café as part of this year’s Great Bath Feast,” says Three Ways School Head Teacher Jo Stoaling. “This is an opportunity our students to be part of a community event that showcases what they’re capable of and invites the community into our school.” “I pride myself on my savoury scones, one of our signature dishes, so bring on the competition!” says 3 Café Kitchen chef Mark.

So: get your bake on, Bath! Participants are asked to register and make a £2.50 donation towards the ongoing fundraising for 3 Café Kitchen. All scones must be presented to the judging panel on the day of the competition, and the winning baker of savoury or sweet incarnations of the scone genre will be crowned Bath’s Best Scone Maker. To enter, call Amelia on 01225 838070 or email amelia.hartley@threeways.co.uk stating your name, address and telephone number.

While we’re on the subject of Three Ways School and the Great Bath Feast, the 3 Café Kitchen is also hosting a very special Showcase Evening on Saturday 30 September, which will put the spotlight on the café’s locally sourced, home cooked sharing platters. There are two sittings (5.30pm and 8pm), but space is strictly limited; book early to avoid disappointment.
