Chequers: check it out!

If you haven’t checked out the changes that have recently gone on at groovy gastropub Chequers, we heartily recommend that you do so right now: there’s a brand new kitchen team at the hob, the upstairs dining room has been given a tres glamorous facelift… and, as of last month, local superchef Tony Casey is working his magic in the kitchen.

Tony has been cooking in the Bath area for 13 years. Since his first job as a Commis Chef to Hob God Michael Caines at Bristol’s Royal Marriott, he’s honed his inimitable skills at the Pump House and, more recently, The Garrick’s Head, where The Pig Guide first discovered his charms… and hasn’t looked back. “I want my food to make people happy,” says Tony. “I believe that you can get the same level of comfort and enjoyment from a well thought-out, elevated dish as you can from your mum’s roast dinner – that’s what I’m aiming for.” The Pig’s response? My mum’s roast dinners never tasted half as good as Tony’s (sorry, mum!)… and what Tony doesn’t know about beautifully-presented, totally tasteful, locally-sourced food isn’t worth knowing.
