By George!

The legacy of St George – the patron saint of England – is celebrated every around the world year on an annual feast day dedicated to his honour, usually on or around 23 April… and The Pig Guide doesn’t intend to miss out on the opportunity for a festive feast!

On Thursday 21 April, Bath College Catering Department’s Shrubbery Restaurant will be hosting a special St George’s Day dinner. All the dishes will be prepared, cooked and served by students as part of their training (read more about the work that they do in this recent Bath Magazine feature), meaning that we get a taste of tomorrow’s kitchen superstars today for the unbeatable price of just £18.50pp – fabulous!

Next up, there’s an opportunity to give those little grey cells a thorough workout and earn yourself a super supper into the bargain at the St George’s Day Quiz Night and Supper at Hartley Farm Shop and Cafe (just up t’road in Winsley, around 2 miles west of Bradford on Avon) on Friday 22 April (£18pp).

The following evening (Saturday 23 April), Bailbrook House are hosting a St George’s Day gourmet banquet in the characterful surroundings of their Cloisters Restaurant – expect to indulge in Champagne and canapés on arrival followed by an indulgent, 5-course Best of English gala menu with matching wines for an amazing £59pp.

Meanwhile, weir-side good times hotspot The Boater will be celebrating a triple-whammy of excitement on Saturday 23 April: St George’s Day, William Shakespeare’s birthday and this lovely, lively pub’s second birthday party presented all in one great big bundle, resulting in “live music, Shakespearian fun, great beer and one hell of a party” – and when The Boater folk make a promise like that, they never fail to let us down!

Party on, patriots!
