Brand new chef at The Chequers: Alex Betts

The Pig Guide is offering a warm welcome and offering all good luck wishes to Alex Betts, who has recently been appointed head chef at award-winning gastropub The Chequers.

From his early days cooking in his home town of Leeds to more recent stints including a junior sous chef role under Sam Moody at The Bath Priory and an inspirational stint working with Louise McCrimmon at Harvey Nichols in Bristol, Alex – who loves discovering new local ingredients and suppliers and is also a keen forager – has always been passionate about food. Since the start of this month, he’s been quietly hard at work heading up the kitchen team at the Chequers hob transforming the menu using the best seasonal produce he can get his hands on, and says he’s hugely enthusiastic about his new role… and we are too!

Alex and his team are currently developing and honing a raft of new dishes which will define the current season. They’re also gearing up to celebrate the return of the Chequers’ popular seven-course Tasting Menu option, which will be unveiled from Monday 5 June. We can’t wait to meet you, Alex!
