Bath’s First Beach Bar opens at the County Hotel

The County Hotel on Pulteney Road has recently launched the city’s very first Beach Bar. Furnished with comfortable low seating (designed so that visitors can feel the actual sand between their toes) and bright Balinese parasols and offering views over the Rec and Bath Abbey, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy alfresco cocktails and summer-friendly food served in a totally tropical beach bar vibe.

Staycation-themed food ranges from pizzas, superfood salads and barbecue options to classic burgers (including a vegan varietal) and hot dogs, all of which will be served all day, while cocktails take their inspiration from beaches around the world, including fave raves such as Aperol Spritz and Pimm’s, unique twists on Pina Coladas and Mojitos and specials including the Amalfi Coast (Limoncello, Aperol, strawberries and honey), the Venice Beach (Champagne, Chambord and lemon sorbet) and the Bath Breeze, featuring gin, vodka, orange and cranberry. There are plenty of local beers, ciders and soft drink options too, while a wonderfully eclectic cool, air-conditioned indoor space – designed as a social hub for work or play – just begs to be explored: various chill-out zones are centred around contemporary pieces of art including Abyss (a central artwork, by Jacqueline Bond based on plastic pollution in the ocean and the play of light that this creates) alongside vast canvases and floral installations, while separate meeting room offer a creative space for workshops, get-togethers, private parties, celebrations and more – yay!

The County Hotel Bath is the latest addition to Ian and Christa Taylor’s Kaleidoscope Collection, which also includes No 15 Great Pulteney. “Creating something that’s fun, eclectic and different for Bath is what we do, and we’re delighted with the initial transformation here at The County Hotel,” says Ian. “Our new planting and sculptures to the front of the hotel – which include Summer the Owl by artist Angus McBob (part of the Owls of Bath public art trail) – give passers-by a hint of the new look and feel, but we hope people will come and experience our new Beach Bar and social hub for themselves.”

When the summer pop-up comes to an end, the beach will be transformed into a visually exciting Winter Wonderland, set to be the coolest festive party space in town. How cool is all of this news? Fabulous stuff indeed.

Beach Bar opening hours: 10am-10.30pm every day (11pm on Friday and Saturday) Food served 12noon-9pm, with a beach BBQ served between 5-9pm Friday-Saturday and 1-5pm on Sunday.
