Bath gets StreetSmart this Christmas

Seven Bath restaurants (including the Mint Room, the Porter, Jika Jika, the White Hart and the Wheatsheaf in Combe Hay) have signed up to participate in StreetSmart: the national campaign run in conjunction with selected businesses to raise money for homeless charities. During November and December 2013, StreetSmart in Bath will raise valuable funds for Julian House courtesy of voluntary £1 donations added to the table bill at the end of meals in participating restaurants. As all StreetSmart’s running and operational costs are generously paid for by its sponsors, every penny in every £1 raised goes directly to the people who need it –  and this is a gift that keeps on giving indeed . “The StreetSmart scheme is a tremendous way for people to make a real contribution towards a very challenging social problem,” says Cecil Weir, Funding and PR Manager for Julian House. “The period between now and Christmas will see huge numbers of diners heading out for meals; by adding just £1 to their bill, the cumulative benefit will be huge – potentially it could allow us to provide three meals a day for some of the most marginalised members of society in our main hostel. That’s got to be worth a £1!”. The Pig is confident that there are many more businesses out there who want to join in with the scheme, and pledges to donate a big Pig pound to StreetSmart for every restaurant that gets on board as a result of this news story. If you’re keen to sign up (and really, why wouldn’t you be?), contact Madeleine Waters on 07778 702221 and drop us a line at Pig HQ to let us know when the ball’s rolling.
